ANOREXIA
What is Anorexia?
An eating disorder, marked by an extreme fear of becoming overweight that
leads to excessive dieting to the point of serious ill-health and sometimes
death. A person with anorexia usually does not need to be on a diet to
lose weight. Sometimes people who, in the beginning, need to lose
weight get caught up in their success and become obsessed with losing weight
and continue beyond their ideal weight.
Dietary considerations
It is easy for someone not suffering with this condition to pass it off and
tell you its silly to think that way, but it is not that easy to a person
suffering with this condition. Proper counseling is the most important
part of any healthy diet but is especially true for someone with Anorexia.
You need to know your target weight, set by a doctor or someone you trust
(not you) and then to eat appropriately. Do your best and don't worry
about failures along the way. What you do on any one given day has
little to do with your overall success or failure, it is the combination of
all the days that matter. With proper counseling and determination you
can win this war.
Recommended Supplements
A person with this disorder not only becomes mal-nourished but suffers from
severe vitamin and mineral deficiencies. It is important for you to
eat properly and take vitamins and other supplements to help minimize the
damage to your body. A high dose general all-purpose vitamin may be a
good place to start. Men and women have other special needs so check
with your doctor.
